Festivals
KC is known for its world-class arts festivals, including the annual Blues Festival and Middle of the Map Fest. But there’s much more to this vibrant, diverse city than just the art scene.
Jazz & Barbecue
One of the most popular forms of entertainment in Kansas City, jazz is an integral part of the city’s cultural heritage. With more than 40 jazz bars in KC and more than 50 annual performances, the genre continues to thrive.
Heart of America Shakespeare Festival
The Heart of America Shakespeare Festival is a true cultural treasure, and it’s an organization that I can’t imagine a community without. Not only is HASF a source of theater excellence and theatrical professionalism, but it’s also an amazing source of outreach to young people.
They have a mission to make Shakespeare accessible to diverse audiences, and their efforts are always done in a professional and educational manner that makes it easy for people of all backgrounds to participate. I have had the pleasure of working with them onstage, and I cannot express how much this organization does to enrich our communities through their cultural experiences.
National Hispanic Month
During this celebration, visitors can sample food from a variety of Hispanic-owned restaurants and enjoy performances by salsa dancers, mariachi bands and other musical acts. This event also features a parade, which will start at the Kansas City Convention Center and finish at Swope Park, where guests can stroll through a butterfly garden.
Kansas City Restaurant Week
If you’re craving the best eats in KC, head to this two-week event where you’ll get a taste of some of the area’s finest plates. Throughout the week, you’ll be able to indulge in Kansas City’s top-notch dining scene as many of KC’s restaurants offer special menus and discounts.
Strawberry Swings
The Strawberry Swings is an excellent place to find quality handmade goods from independent makers. From artisan BBQ sauces to custom housewares and jewelry, this market is a must-visit.
American Royal KC
The annual American Royal is a five-month-long event that includes rodeos, horse competitions, livestock shows and more. It’s the perfect destination for anyone who loves a good time in the country.
